#25 “Portrait of an Artist (Pool with Two Figures)” (1972) by David Hockney ($90.3M)
“Portrait of an Artist (Pool with Two Figures)” is an acrylic on canvas pop art painting made by a British artist, David Hockney. The painting reflects two figures, one swimming in the pool whereas the other one fully clothed standing and observing the swimmer.
The captivating thought behind this painting was that then in the 1960s when David travelled to LA, he saw swimming pools almost everywhere. This was surprising as swimming pools were a luxury in England at that time. This fact gave him a subject matter to spill on his canvas.
The portrait realized $90.3 million on 15 November and found its worthy spot in the list of the most expensive art by a living artist sold at auction.
