11. Romance Scams
As the number of people who are online dating increases, so are the number of these types of romance-related scams. Many times the scammer will strike up a conversation through an online platform and allow the relationship to become solid.
Sure, this sounds like the ideal relationship and all, but the scammer will then come up with countless excuses as to why they cannot meet up or speak in person. Then, the scammer will ask for money or ask for personal information, allowing you to send money or pay for them in order to come and meet you.
Many times this is not the case and the money you send won’t be used for what you were told it would be used for. In recent years, victims of romance scams have lost more than $328 million combined.
