#4 Lake Natron: Tanzania
Just the fact that this massive lake is blood red in color should give you a warning of what’s to come! Lake Natron in Tanzania may look like a fascinating landscape, but it is an extremely dangerous one to visit if you’re not careful.
The bright red color of the lake is thanks to an extremely alkaline salt crust of the lake. As a result, any living creature – plant or animal – that comes into contact with it can suffer severe fatalities, and even die.
Naturally, swimming is strictly prohibited in the lake, and what’s even sadder is that admiring the lake from a shot distance is also not that easy. This is because of the strong odor of the hydrogen sulfide gas in the region, a gas famous for its rotten egg smell!
