Afghanistan once used to be a progressive and peaceful country between the 1930s to the 1970s. Due to its central location, the nation was a lovely melting pot of different cultures that created a rich cultural tradition.
But interference by foreign powers, external funding that funded extremist elements, and manipulation of their local elections by external powers ended up immersing the nation in turmoil and violence.
Unfortunately, this created the perfect storm for crime to rise, something that makes the country still very unsafe to visit. There have been a high number of kidnappings, robberies, suicide bombings, and terrorist attacks that could potentially make a visit here a stressful one.
