Did you know of something called Dark Tourism? It’s when people find it interesting to visit spots associated with death and disasters. And Chernobyl’s violent nuclear disaster past pushed it to the top of the list, though such sightseeing may not be everyone’s cup of tea.
When visiting, tourists are strongly advised to follow a strict code of rules to prevent radiation exposure: no drinking, eating, or smoking outdoors, no exposure of bare skin, and making sure that none of your possessions of touch the ground.
These rules typically discourage most tourists from venturing here, but they’ve been put in place for the safety of the few that do step in.
