#15 Caller ID and Call Waiting by Dr. Shirley Ann Jackson
American physicist Dr. Shirley Ann Jackson is one of the first African-American women to earn a doctorate from the Massachusetts Institute of technology (MIT).
Apart from her notable contribution in developing call waiting and Caller ID, she is also the second African-American woman to get a doctorate in physics.
Dr. Jackson is responsible for the invention of Call waiting and Caller ID, but she also pioneered the research behind the portable fax machine and the touch-tone telephone.
Her creations were a result of her work done at AT&T Bell Labs, where she did research work in quantum, optical, and solid-state physics along with theoretical physics.
