#18 Medical Syringe by Letitia Mumford Geer
Most of us dreaded injections in our childhood, but they were what saved us from countless diseases. However, you’ll be surprised to know the story of its invention.
In 1896, Letitia Mumford Geer officially received the patent for inventing the medical syringe, which could be operated with a single hand.
Her design of the syringe had a cylinder, a handle, a piston rod, as well as a nozzle.
This syringe was easy-to-use, less painful, and allowed doctors to control the fluid being injected into the body. Plus, this medical syringe also featured a U-shaped handle for a better and tighter grip.
