#7 Maya Bay, Thailand
Maya Bay is a landmark site for those who are fans of the movie ‘The Beach.’ In 2000, when the movie was first released, fans flocked to Maya Bay for a glimpse of the iconic location.
The sheer number of tourists and the damage that ensued forced the Thai authorities to shut down the area completely.
Apart from the tourists, the making of the movie also left the beach in ecological ruins.
In 2018, the beach was shut down until the coral reef and ecosystem recover. The sheer damage done to the ecosystem is said to require at least two or three years to recover.
So, possibly by the end of 2021, the beach might reopen.
